EU Takes Action on Textile Waste Responsibility

November 14, 2025

This fall, the European Union approved new rules for the creation of national programs to insure that #apparel producers carry the cost for clothing collection, sorting and recycling. It estimates that 12 kg (26.5 lb) per person is being dumped each year. While #textile waste is turning to be a crucial ecological issue, its collection & recycling are costly endeavors. Excluding them from the producer responsibility has fueled the rise of low-cost and fast-fashion trends.

The widely quoted figure for the US - 81.5 lb (37 kg) of textile waste per person per year, lies far above the EU average. Luckily, some states are beginning to take similar action in mitigating the associated risks. At Green Team, we are actively shaping a future where clothing collection for #reuse is even more widely seen as a vital part of the circular economy.
